Scholars and Careers in Mental Health Counseling

When students become an Elevation Scholar, it’s important that during their time with us, they’re exposed to a variety of career opportunities as they decide how they want to impact their community.

That’s why we’re so grateful to our friends at Grace Clinic Christian Counseling for their support of our program.

Having held several Horizon events, Monica Taffinder shared that the events were always “full of deep and broad conversations.” In fact, those conversations led her to invite a number of Scholars to serve as interns at the clinic.

Anthony Phagoo, an Elevations Scholar at Wesleyan University, was one of Monica’s former interns.

“Grace Clinic was more than an internship site for me,” shared Anthony. “It was a place where I made amazing connections with professionals who always facilitated a warm nurturing learning environment. My experience further assured me that I want a career in the mental health field because I saw first hand how rewarding it was to help people through the sometimes most challenging moments of their lives.”

For Monica and her team, many of our Scholars became like family. In fact, one of her favorite memories is attending a high school football game to celebrate another intern who became drum major of the band.

“Once you learn what Elevation Scholars is doing, it’s really not hard to want to be involved,” added Monica.
